Ok, it is set, we are going to dry camp, and meet OCCampers out in the desert with the quads over Memorial weekend.  I'm buying a generator tomorrow, I'll dry camp to a point, but no ac is ridiculous.  I will have to fill my TT with water, which occured to me, I have never done in the 2+ years we've owned the thing.   So, if anyone wants to come out and visit......yea right, let me know.
It's gonna be a blast!  I'll post pics when we return.

This is gonna be fun.  Brian you will get to meet Randy's disfunctional family in all their glory.  Shoot, I should of let that be a surprise.:o :D .  Darn that outloud voice.:yikes: .  Are you going to introduce me to cactus coolers?  What do I need to buy to make them?

We are now thinking of dragging the tent trailer down too.  Not sure if the truck can handle the weight of the camper and the 3 dirt bikes but we are going to do a trial load up this weekend and see if the rear bumper hits the pavement:eek: .

This trip will be total boondocking.   No electric, water or dump station.  Just the desert and all its beauty.  It brings a whole new meaning to being self contained.  Keep your fingers crossed that it isn't hot and the winds don't kick up.

If anyone else wants to come on out you don't have to have a quad or dirt bike.  Just bring your camper, water and a chair.  It is going to be a blast.

Ah yes, Cactus Coolers is a camping must.  We need Vodka, OJ (No Pulp), Peach Schnapps, and Energy drink,  Monster Energy Drink in the green and black can works the best.  Energy drink goes the fastest so we always need extra of that. But if everyone brings some it will be fine.  Most people that try it like it.  Just ask Glen (Zamboni), he was a maniac!  And I second Jacqui, if anyone wants to come up, I will have a generator for some A/C during the day, nd the nights are nice and cool.

We might take you up on the generator. We have an EU1000 but no way will it run the a/c. We are renting a motorhome and they charge extra if you run the on-board genie more than 3 hours a day. Our other friends that are coming are serious off-roader/boondockers and should have their own generator.

I will buy the fixins for cactus coolers. I think Sam's Club has Monster by the case. Just not sure if it is the green can. I will go check it out today.  My neices and sister in laws will love this.

Hey Brain
where are you getting your generator from and what kind are you getting ? I have been toying with the idea of getting one too. still looking for the best deal on one.

OC Campers

OK.  I went and bought a case of Monster and a bottle of peach schnapps.  If I can keep Randy from drinking the Schmirnoff I also will have a 1.5 liter of Vodka.  All I need is the juice and voila cactuc cooler.

I must be out of my freaking mind...

But, for some insane reason, this does sound like a potentially fun idea... (we now have a Honda 2000 gen)

However, it looks like a 7 hour drive (470 miles) from Sack-of-tomatoes.  That is a deadly consideration.  Kelly and I have done the Pismo-Thingy twice, and decided that given the 6 hours of driving each way, it was not worth it for a 4-day trip.

Now, for Memorial Weekend... that is only 3 days.  Our daycare lady has already requested Tues off, so if I took it off as well as Kelly, that would be 4 days.  Taking one more day would be 5 days... it would be an outside possibility.  Sadly, Kelly's school year does not end until the end of that week.  This frustrates me:
1)  They start the school year about 1 week before Labor Day (or less)
2)  The end the school year the few days after Memorial Day.
>>>> WHY NOT CHANGE ONE OF THEM?  Move the start or end day a few days so the district only screws with ONE holiday weekend???  Bah.

Kelly is not sure if she can easily get Fri & Tues off.  Same for me...  Currently, our plan is to try to go up to Ice House (Union Valley Reservoir, off Hwy 50 past Placerville) - but there are no guaranteed spots, so it might be risky.

A heck of a drive to Mojave; we would leave Sac Thurs evening and drive straight through, thus not getting there until probably after 1 am.   The only way to "make it worthwhile".   We'd only do it if we stayed until Tues mid-day-ish, then left and drove straight back to Sac, arriving "sometime during the night".

OC Campers -- when are your planned dates in Mojave?  Arrival/departure TIMES?  If we were to go, and if our travel time/dates were the same, we might be able to work out some sort of cargo-sharing thing that would lessen your load enough to enable you to bring your PUP.  Would you bringing your PUP and Pickup be INSTEAD of the motorhome?  Or, are you needing to bring your pickup in addition to the motorhome in order to bring your toys?  (if so, why not bring/rent a flatbed trailer to tow behind the motorhome?)

We would even have room in our Explorer for another person (ie, one of your flock) to minimize your travel discomfort if you are all in your Pick-em-up.

FOOTNOTE:
Since I am now an hourly, contract employee, any hour my ass is not at my desk is not paid.  Thus, taking time off is a valuable thing; I am directly sacrificing many hundreds of dollars to take a day off.  However, I factored in the "value" of my vacation time from my last job, when accepting this (to be sure that this was still more money), because I knew that "overall", I still wanted time off... thus, in my mind, am not earning $xx/hour, but instead $YYYYY per year INCLUDING VACATIONS AND HOLIDAYS.

POST-SCRIPT:
I have no idea how come, or why, I am even entertaining this; on the surface, it is crazy, but it sounds good right now.  Of course, I've had a yummy margarita, so it might be influencing me -- and I'm sure Kelly is going to be shocked tomorrow when(IF!) I mention this idea to her.  Of course, since I do 90% of the driving, it is only hours of her time in the passenger seat hanging out, or in the back seat watching a movie with the baby... so, not so painful for her as me...

TheViking

Well Glen,  You know there will be Cactus Coolers waiting for you.  If that helps
