I just received a new awning that I purchased on eBay for $150 (incl S&H):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=003&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=130124137770&rd=1,1

I have a 12' box and I was a little concerned about purchasing an 11' awning (the 12' awning is not available from this seller) . However, it ends up that it is only 6" shorter than my original awning and the bag is exactly the same length (I always thought the other bag should be longer).

I was also concerned about the quality of the awning because of it's low price but here is what I found:

1. The fabric quality is superior to the original Coleman awning.
2. The awning has zippers sewn on to all 3 sides of the awning (for a screen room or whatever).
3. The frame is much stronger than the original, allowing it to have one support leg on either end (no need for a center support).
4. The horizontal supports are attached and hinged for folding up into the frame.  The vertical supports are designed with a double hinge to stand straight upright or angle back to the camper (frame brackets are included) for the modification that I wanted to do anyway.
5. All 4 supports are attached to the main awning frame and tuck away neatly for storage (as apposed to some being loose and stored separately).

Number 4 was quite a surprise to me because I have been wanting to do that modification where you angle the vertical supports back to the trailer frame for a long time. The most troubling part about doing that mod with my original awning was that it put the main cross bar at an odd angle, which put stress on the horizontal support poles (especially the plastic tips) and the awning fabric. This one is designed to do either. You can stand them on the ground or take them back to brackets on the frame (which are included with this awning).

In short, I am overwhelmingly amazed at the quality and engineering of this awning. At the price, it just simply can't be beat. :D  :D  :D

You sound more like the seller than the buyer, Wayne!  ;)

I know that you are jesting but this was recommended to me by Recumbantman who heard about it from someone else. He knew that I was in the market because mine got damaged (although I was able to jeri-rig it for last weekends rally :p ).

I posted the actual auction that I purchased mine from but the seller still has current auctions going for different sizes. Go to my link and click on "View seller's other items" to see what he has available (if anyone is interested).

I took some pictures of my installation. The pics came out really lousy but they show what the awning is like:

That looks just like the Carefree Colorado awning that came on my 02 Viking.  I liked the fact that I could hook it to the coach itself like you did.

I am glad it worked out for you. That is one nice looking awning  :) did you look it over to see if the awning name is somewhere to be found   Wish Fleetwood would supply us with this model awning.

Don't you owe me a glass of wine for my finders fee  ;)

We shall share many together my friend. The first bottle is on us......Great find. Thanks again :sombraro:

I hope that your "Vacation :p " is a fabulous one. Give your wonderful bride a big hug for us.

The awning is an "A & E". They make the "CareFree".

wow thats nice!  and a good price.  We have been looking to replace our awning because it is starting to rip and no one will fix it.

Will awning retro fit to an older trailer? (93 starcraft) with the old pole setup?

What do you think?

It sure will. The only thing that you need is the C channel that the bag goes into on the PU roof.

The new awning comes with a new bag, frame and poles. I put mine together and installed it in 30 minutes. At $150, it sure isn't worth messing with repairing an old awning.

I just noticed that he only has 7 left.

It sure will. The only thing that you need is the C channel that the bag goes into on the PU roof. You slide your old awning out of the channel and slide the new one in. Ours has one retaining screw on either end of the C channel. Just remove those 2 screws and slide it out.

You also need to drill a couple of holes to mount the pole end brackets on the camper. Not a big deal. You just have to consider carefully where to put them.

Hello- New to this forum, but thought I would weigh in.  The old awning on our 98 Coleman Rio went paws up in May.  Purchased the same awning for under 150.  Install was easy as could be.  Did have one glitch two weeks ago when awning was deployed.  Had missed the back of the plastic rib that holds it into the C track with the screws so it half removed itsself and fell.  BUT it survived beautifully.  No punctures, tears, bends, etc.  Fantastic awning!

I, too, ordered the awning from eBay after reading Wayne's post about it.  Mine came yesterday and my husband and I had it on the PUP in less than an hour.  In the beginning hubby was skeptical, but last night after installation, he was all smiles and I could tell he was thinking of this weekend when we will be camping with the temps in the mid 90's.

Thanks again Wayne for the great bargin you shared with us.

New to this website, as well as new to pop-up camping.  Graduated from tent camping to a pop-up this week with the purchase of a 97 Fleetwood.  I have a question about the awning............"the bag" you refer to...does that stay mounted to the camper? or do I have to remove it while travelling?

Thanks

It stays mounted to the camper. The bag has a "Bolt rope" built into it. That slides into the "C" channel that is on the roof of most PUs. The is a screw in either end the keeps the bag from sliding out of the "C" channel. :sombraro:
