If we have to put in wood floors in DD bedroom, I will. But, it will be a last resort. It is so much more cozy to have carpet! And, she plays on her floor. I am just gunning for a cleaning lady....maybe that will help! Oh, and cleaning out her room of all her junk!

Yes, you would definately need throw rugs. But atleast you can wash those. Hardwood  or tile would be the way to go but more expensive.

Although, I think my dad was fighting in Vietnam while Viking was running around in diapers. So, he is a bit older....

I know, But if someone posted that to one of us he would of pounced on it. I always give him a hard time about his age.  That's one thing I have on him. He'll always be older than me.:) Viking, any replys?

Yeah. Did I mention Kristi turns 40 on January 12th?

Don't go there K. After 16 years you should know you're in over your head.

I can swim!;)

Lisa, I think you'd be pleasantly surprised about wood/laminate floors.  I got rid of my 3 year-old carpet (it was nice -- and expensive!) last spring because of Jed & his puppy-ness.  Too much mess & too hard to keep clean.  I got a high-grade laminate because every floor person I talked to said that they're much easier to maintain.  Solid wood scratches & dents and has to be waxed/sanded every now & then.  I couldn't be happier with it.  SO much easier to clean, and it's warm, too.  I got a cheap area rug at Home Depot, so that if Jed trashes it (i.e., throws up) I don't feel bad about tossing it.  It's easy to see dust bunnies, and very quick to clean up.  And I bet there aren't near the allergins hanging around once it's vacuumed up.

I'm sorry you're going through this.  It seems like there's a learning curve, and once you've gotten past that, then it's a matter of maintainence.  Hang in there!

When I was in Nam we couldn't have anybody on patrol looking for Charlie in the jungle who had any allergies. One sneeze and we could have all been dead meat.

Have you told me before that you were there?  Were you?  In the 70's?  My dad was/is a Marine.  What were you in?

He didn't have trouble with his asthma/allergies then, I guess.  I will have to ask him about that....

Yes, Bran will always be older than me....until I put him in the grave!!!  He keeps saying I am catching up...and I keep reminding him that the only way I will ever catch up is if he stops!!

Never thought about throw rugs...and being able to wash them.  Good idea.

OH, yes, Laura...I learned the hard way. We spent lots of $$ putting in hardwood floors in our living room and dining room...only for Riley to leave his claw prints all throughout my floors!  I figure I will get them refinished someday (when I can afford it).

I have seen Wilson Art Flooring...it is a cross between real wood and laminate, I guess.  I would put that in her room, if needed.  We just put real cheap laminate in our den, right by her room, for Riley (so he can't scratch it up)...real cheap.  Of course, Riley isn't allowed in the house right now, while the doc tries to get DD breathing and such under control.  She isn't allergic to dogs...but, I guess he can be a trigger...and he brings in dust.  So, the doc said to hold off for right now.

Off to dust!!

yes and it's the labor that will kill ya...

that was my plan to get some large rugs and when it seems like the allergans are setting in you toss them and get new ones...I'll have to keep doing research and convince Dan.
I have lamiate in my kitchen  love it. do you have any idea how many cans etc I've dropped and they have survived.
my observation with Kara she is sensitive to mold as she always gets worse when it rains. she lived on children's claritin and always had a runny nose.
I don't know how old your house is, mine was built in like 1964
when we remodeled the bathrooms, the floor had 4 layers of linolium (sp?) tiles which over the years water creeped in the cracks and of course mold. her constant runny nose went away.

Just saw the specialist doc.  It is Dr. Berger...that guy who wrote the yellow and black Dummy Book...Asthma for Dummies.  Anyway, he wants DD on Zyrtec and Nasonex for her allerigies...insurance won't cover Zyrtec.  So, we have been doing the Claritin, and it's not working very well.  He feels Claritin is an ineffective drug that only made money for being non-drowsy....but, she has to take it since insurance won't cover the other one.  However, Zyrtec is going over-the-counter at the first of the year...so he wants us to switch over at that time, as he feels it is a good drug, non-drowsy.

That really makes me mad about the insurance companies not covering drugs. I had the same problem with Ashlee. Claritin didn't work, Zyrtec was tried a few years ago and worked ok but now she  has Allegra and it seems to work good.  When I worked at the doctors office Pacificare (Prescription Solutions) rejected allergy medicines for her saying they weren't covered.  They said "Try Claritin, Try this, Try That", etc.....I knew none of them worked because we had been down that road before with different insurance. All it took was our prescription person to fax a form to Pacificare saying those other meds had been tried and didn't work and Allegra was needed. He had approval for all her allergy meds in 1 day. All I'm saying is if I hadn't worked there and knew someone I would of had to go thru numerous trips to the doctor and numerous prescriptions that I might as well of thrown away because I knew they didn't work before the insurance company would of filled what she needed. Lisa, I'm glad that Zyrtec works and is going over the counter after the first of the year. Hopefully they don't charge an arm and leg for it since it's new.
