Was talking to my DW the other day and we were talking about how we love to go camping and get away from all of life's problems and stresses. Its like a mini vacation for us when we camp on a weekend. We love going to new places and checking out the new surroundings and such. We love hearing all that nature brings to us, I.E. birds chirping, waves crashing & etc.
and now we have been very lucky to find a group of people (sccampers) that enjoy camping and it makes the whole process of getting out that much more pleasurable when you have friends to share great memories with.

So the question: Why do we, or rather, why do you, camp?  Maybe you have picture to post that would be as they say,"worth a thousand words!"

Yeah, but we're all okay with that. :sombraro:

We go to get away from it all; to disconnect from TV, Computers, Email, Cel phones, work and school and to enjoy the campfire, a little whiskey, and the joys of our family together.

Yes, we do the same and also enjoy a GREAT group of people.;)

Dont ya just love the serenity that every camp site brings to each individual person.

I go to play poker and win large amounts of $$ from my SCCAMPER friends to finance all my camping trips. Oh yeah and what recumbentman and wavery said about being together with the boys and watching sports via the satellite dish. I also like to camp to drink large amounts of blue bombers and have the rangers come by to say - "Brad and Wayne can you keep it down it's quiet time - you guys are being too loud". And wondering why we can't go back to the same campground again. ;)

Stressors!!!!! What stressors???????????

Some weekends it is to just relax and catch up with what is going on with my kids.  Being they are 15 and 12 we are lucky they still want to hang out with mom and dad.  Sit by the campfire and just do nothing.

Other weekends it is just to be alone with my husband.  We need those mini weekends to just get away from it all.

And yet other weekends are to spend time with good friends drinking and talking by the campfire.  (We have also been told to keep it down so don't worry--that's after a few whiskey and cokes).

Where else can you do all those things except for camping?

For us camping is primarily a means to enjoy everything else we want to do: boating, fishing, hiking, birding, geocaching, bicycling and bicycle racing, shooting, tennis, golfing, antiqeuing, fossil hunting, visiting greenhouses and nurseries, and historic sites.  The joys of the campfire, stargazing, having family members join us, good food, and "sipping the corn" are all wonderful extras.

Finally decided to own up to at least half the problem at Smithwoods, eh?:p

Can't really add to the reasons already listed. It's great to get out into some fresh air, have a campfire, kick back with some friends and enjoy a brown pop, grape juice or other libation, and just re-laaaaaaaxxxxxx.

We camp to get away from the rush of life we enjoy relaxing and meeting with new and old friends sharing stories.  Nothing puts life back in order more than being one with nature and looking around and seeing our world and all the beauty in it.....When we sit at home and listen to the news and hear all the sadness around us it's depressing but in a CG away from everything for a few short hours it puts everything back in order at least till the next time we get together with our camping family. We camp to find inter peace......

JohnandLeann

OK.....It is the food.......and the great company when in a group.
It also lets us appreciate home comforts a bit more when we return like our own shower and the comfy bed and well stocked fridge that we don't have to go diggin through ice for to get stuff.

flyfisherman

How about A fishing base camp ...? and then all the other stuff is just exttras.

Easy. My work involves at least 3 phones, 1 (or 2) pagers, sometimes up to 5 pagers and 4 phones on my belt. And email.

Camping doesn't.
