Looks like this may be a wet winter for SoCal. That is a good news/bad news for us but it may make for a challenging camping season.

What we are seeing is a classic El Nino weather pattern. This current series of storms will probably last up to 2 weeks, then I think we may have a 2 week calm before the next series of storms. That may leave the end of Jan as a good opportunity to camp (not sure what that might mean for the Lake Casitas camp-out).

Pt Mugu (Thornhill Broome) currently has 57 sites available for that weekend so there is no reason to start making reservations.

I was just wondering if anyone else would be interested in camping that weekend, weather permitting. We could probably make reservations 4 days to 1 week before the weekend. In fact, we often go with no reservations during the winter.

Um thats two campouts in one month Mister.  You are breaking you own rule....:book::book:

We could always do it the weekend after, weather permitting. It looks like this current round of storms could last up to or past the 29th.

All I was thinking is that if there is a weather window on the 29th weekend, that might be a good time to get a camp-out in. If that weekend is clear, there's a chance that the Feb 14th weekend may have the next round. If it does, we will cancel that weekend and I don't want to go that long without a camping trip. Lake Casitas can get real bad in these winter storms. The wind can blow 60-70MPH up there. I don't mind a little rain but these El Nino storms are usually not a little rain.

I have to be at this property if there is a chance of hard rain. The water table sometimes rises so high that it floods our elevator pit.

Will keep this under consideration because I have thinking about the weather at Casitas myself.  If it rains we no go to Casitas.

Azusateach

Just so I don't have to look it up, what's the cancellation policy at Casitas?  I don't mind a little rain either, but I don't want to have to add pontoons to my new trailer.

Thanks!

I see you are stirring up the troops and getting them all concern about camping at Lake Casitas. I could understand setting up another campout after Lake Casitas because it got rained out (maybe) but to start this before it even happens is just plain mean :compumad:
its hard enough stepping up a be a wagonmaster and now you start this topic about getting rained out and having people start second guessing about camping and cancelling. Nice... real Nice :eyecrazy:

Where's the love :)

Yeah Wayne, where's the love - you're tryin' to highjack or put the jinx on this campout. I bet it's going to be sunny and in the high 70's. Trust me - I'm a lawyer :D

As far as cancellations for Lake Casitas, I have not found the info yet.  Probably on my reservations/confirmation info sheet that I have.
Not to worry Brad, maybe we will do both camp-outs.

wavery

Just to be clear. We have NO intention of canceling Casitas unless a storm system as severe as this current one is forecast, (which is not likely.....just possible). I don't think that anyone else is considering it either.

We are thinking of this Pt Mugu camp-out as a "Back-up plan".
