I take back Lake Isabella.  We could go the Eastern Sierras or back to Santa Cruz again.

Has this rally died on the vine? I hope not.

I throw this out there to stimulate discussion: I know its not necessarily everyone's first choice, but have we completely ruled out Flying Flags?  We know they can accommodate large groups and in the past they have been very lenient with our late nights. They have amenities at the CG, such as a pool, arcade, and playground, but beaches, shopping, Solvang, wine tasting, and other things are nearby.

What does everyone think about this one?

Flying Flags is good for us because it is just down the road.  Camped there this past weekend and thought it was very nice place.  When you have stayed before what did you do for fire rings?  There were none except in the supreme sites, but you can rent them for an additional fee for each night.  Wonder if we can bring our own fire pits, nothing posted that we could not.  On our way out of the resort we drove through the area where the New Year Rally will be and liked the more laid back feel to this part of the park.  We had camped in the first row closest to the residential/full timers but it was still good.

John and Leann,

Yes you can bring your own firepit. There are a number of us who have our own. Otherwise, you can rent them for (used to be) $12/day. The price may have gone up with the rest of the CG's recent improvements.

Yes I heard that they infused over a million dollars in it last year and it really shows.  Very nice place.

I am with you on this choice. :D
three years ago we had it there and it was great. My feelings is that the northern group has come down to us (flying flags) and we have gone up to their area (smithwoods) so having them come back our way seems fair. Lake Lopez was another great spot but during this time of the year we had the Bee problems, plus we where just there two years ago.
FF office works with large groups all the time and make it easy to make reservation for a large group.

Jamesdad

DITTO FF. Good choice.

I brought up FF earlier and I believe the response was that it was too far for the Northern group.

We stayed at FF on our way back from Smithwoods and it looked wonderful.  The grassy area was still there and they are building different sized cabins to accomodate those non-campers.

We saw Bonnie last weekend and she is still working on this.  I am actually not thrilled about FF not because of the distance but of their cost and how we were treated the last time.  I know it is all about the group and it has been a long time since we were there last so I owe them another chance but lets give Bonnie a little longer to figure something out.

Never have had a problem with the staff there, must of been a one of those days. As for the pool, they used to have a big problem with neighboring outside kids getting into the pool. They have now gone to wrist bands and that has helped a lot.
come-on give them another try :U

Anywhere works for us.  It's not about the place that matters, It's about the people that make it special.  We will go wherever everyone decides.  (We're just that crazy!!!)
