Glad you got to camp this weekend Jacqui.  Is the Broom place across from Sycamore Canyon or down across from La Jolla Canyon??  You probably had much better weather at VLR since Saturday and Sunday were cloudy, foggy and cold on the coast.  Finally, today it cleared up. [:D]

Ya know Georgeanne, I was thinking it was La jolla but they said it was part of Pt. Magu.  Who knows.  I was so upset with Reserve America, I didn t know what to do.

Thanks Lori, We haven t purchase the pit 2 go yet but are still looking for something that would work.  We have so little storage space that something that folds down seems good but now maybe we should look at the standing ones.  We could put it on our patio to store it.  Our neighbor is getting a divorce and he is going to give us his Yakima basket with net that will fit our cross bar setup.  So we could strap the fire pit to that.  Hmmm.. So many things to think about.  As far as the cookbook, I think I will go to the bookstore and look around and hit the local Girl Scout store to see if they have one.

OC CampersThe pit-2go oes fold down nicely. and apprently, the new Coleman road trip fireplace also folds down into its own carrying case.  So either could work for you without you having to store it on your patio.

Cute story (at least to me): we drove through FV this afternoon on our way back from visiting our loved ones who have passed away, and as we drove by your neck of the woods on the 405, I told Griffin that Matthew lived there.  Griffin said " Matt hug?"   [:D]

Oh, how cute.  Give him a hub from Matt.[:)].

thanks for the info on the Fireplace.  I think this one is gonna be Randy s baby.  I don t wanna hear that I bought the wrong thing.

 gsm x2Hi fellow Sccampers!
We are back from a very windy camping weekend in Snug Harbor with the Darksiders.  Not an easy campground to find (the roadsigns are hidden behind trees!) and it was a long trip even for a 3-day weekend.  It took us about 7-1/2 hours to get there and about 6-1/2 hours to get home.  Once we got there we had a great time jet skiing and boating and Jim successfully launched his homemade skiff for the first time.  We didn t have any champagne so he poured a Mountain Dew on it!  The S.S. Float-AWay is seaworthy (or at least Delta worthy).

On the food front, the DO was broken in and if I may say so myself, we have passed our initiation.  Everything turned out great...peach cobbler, Kampers Stroganoff, sausage and apple breakfast cornbread, and pineapple upside down cake (we had it for breakfast this a.m!).  Thanks again Moose for the lessons, recipes and inspiration.

Hope everyone had a nice Memorial Weekend!

darksiders

 OC Campershey to all,

as you can see from Chez Way s post, that we all had great weekend in Snug Harbor, even tho it took forever to get there, we got lost, too, (it s a bummer when they hide a street sign behind a tree! [:@]) and the gail force winds prevented us from launching our boat n sea doos on sat. snug harbor was a nice place to camp, the campground personal where all very nice people and we were able to find some good water to wake board, etc
i have to say that mealtime was definitely a highlight of this camping adventure.  thanx to moose for his DO demo at vail lakes and it s inspiration on jeanne/jim...the 2 of them formed a great team, with jim as " coal master"  and jeanne as " chef extraordinaire"  and created some very, verrrrry, yummy eats.[:)][:)] everything turned out perfect and thanx to " darksider" , we were able to add the " a la mode"  to the peach cobbler[:D]

hope ya all had a great/safe memorial,

 OC CampersHi Gang,
 [8D]
I just wanted to post this real quick and duck out. I have been doing a little talking about our crew and I wanted to post this link. Memorial day weekend was not bad, for a holiday with a few too many " City Touting Rookies"  in the CG  and not enough Campers (Lake Elsinore) but all in all, camping is much better than anything else we could have done on that weekend. OK, here is the URL, I m outta here, have a great one everyone.

 OC CampersNikk,

Thanks for spreading the word.  Glad you can describe us as friendly folk...we are you know.  [:D]

OC CampersWe re almost finished our move. Had the house tented for termites over the weekend. We have not had too much free time to devote to the group, but I see light at the end of the tunnel.

BTW, we were camping at Heart Bar in the San Bernadino Mts. this weekend. It s dry camping, but what a beautiful location at 7000 . Paved sites with piped water available. The only negative is they only have pit toilets, but as a Scoutmaster going to summer camps I was used to it. They were clean restrooms. The sites are spaced out so you are usually quite a way from the next camper or tenter. We did run into a nice family who had a Jayco Heritage and they were aware of PUT.

We are very much looking to going north in 2 weeks. This week I get to put on a short DO demo for a Scout meeting. Then another big one up north.

 oldmooseHey Moose and Paula!

Glad to hear that the light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer!  We missed you this weekend, but I m glad that you were able to take some time out and go camping.

Your DO students all performed absolutley spotlessly; your inspiration shone brightly through them, and their dishes were creations of the gourmet to the highest power.  Don t let on that I told you, but I messed mine up on purpose just in case one of theirs didn t turn out the way they wanted.  Yeah...that s it...I messed mine up on purpose...

That s my story, and I m sticking to it! [;)]

 OC CampersHello Fellow SCCampers,

We had simultaneous mini-rallies.  Thanks for the toast AbDiver...you are very thoughtful.  In a week we will have a maxi-rally where at least half a dozen SCCampers (or least north NNC members will be.)

So I thought this would be an appropos time and place to mention that we are already planning the 2nd Annual Christmas at Cachuma Rally.  It s billed as the SCC and NNC Cchristmas at Ccacchuma Rally at this thread.  http://www.popuptimes.com/members/tm.asp?m=31063&p=1&tmode=1

Officially it will be from December 26 - 29th at Lake Cachuma in Santa Barbara County.  Distance-wise it favors SCCampers a bit, but last year SammySlave, Otter, and Surfcal made the trip down to meet OCCampers (soon to be Sacramento-area based) and Cottonwooder in the first ever Joint Rally.

Also check out [link=]www.sccampers.org[/link] and click on the future rallies icon for more information.

Never to early to plan a rally I say.  Hmm, June 6 to December 6 = ~184 days, plus 20.  Two Hundred and Four Days to go.  It will be here before we know it.

OC CampersI m glad the DO s were out in force. I did a DO demo this evening for the Scouts. Almost everything was consumed.

I m now able to spend a little more time perusing the board, but am starting on doing the signs for the NorCal rally. Scott did a great job on the graphics.

Everything happens at once. Last night Paula said that the washer didn t agitate any more. Oh boy! Now I wait for Sears tomorrow. I think I know what the problem is, but I m not going to fix it. I want to go camping.

How agitating!  Glad you got your priorities right!  [;)][:D]

oldmoose

OC CampersWe are fully agitated with a new washer. The old one was purchased in 1984. We didn t realize it d been with us that long. It was cheaper to buy a new one. Saturday will be laundry day. Whoopee. I don t have to turn the underwear inside out or front to back anymore.

QuoteWhoopee. I don t have to turn the underwear inside out or front to back anymore.

So the First Mate on the Viking Ship tells the drummer to stop, so the men rowing look up.

First Mate says, " I have great news. Because of your wonderful dedication to duty rowing constantly for these past three weeks, the Captain has ordered a change of underwear."

 The men cheer in jubulation.

The First Mate yells the order, " All of you men on the starboard side, change underwear with the men on the port side."

 Could have been worse Moose.

moderator1Moderator1 has posted that the May 2003 Rally Forum will be closing in less than a week now and has asked whether we want any of the threads saved to the general or campfire forums.  Yes? No?  What do you all think?

Sorry I ve been off the forum so long.  We got back from Rhode Island last weekend and I am paying the price at work for having gone on vacation.  I hope to be back and yakking online again soon!  Better yet, I m hoping to be camping soon!!!

Oh, btw, guess what we have sitting in our driveway?  Can you say 2003 Ford Expedition with a 5.4L, 290 hp, 350 lb.-ft of torque (at only 2,500 RPM!!), not to mention leather seats and a DVD player?  Rhumph, ruh ruh (think Tim Allen sounds from Tool Time)  Dave is very pleased!  It s good to be the King! [;)]

Uphill grades and longer trips, here we come! [:D]
