Quote from: TheVikingI think one of the spots next to us is open. You could always do like we did in  Pismo the first night and not completly set up and move over the next day. Your welcome to share our grill, bathroom or whatever else you may need. Just a thought.

It's a good thought!  Thank you.  Turns out it would have only been Dan coming with 2 kids.  Matt has perfect attendance and doesn't want to blow it so I would've had to stay behind and come in Friday anyways.  Dan said it's for the best this way.  Students leave at 1:15 on Fridays, so I'm going to brown nose the principal all week to see if I can split out early with the kids since we have no meetings scheduled.  Wish me luck!

Routes.   I have mapped every different scenario of getting down to Oceanside and the best (& Fastest) according to Yahoo maps is taking the 14 from Lancaster to the 5 and going straight through to the 76. It is my guess that taking the 5 freeway right through the belly of the beast (LA), at 4:00 in the afternoon is borderline suicide, but that is the info I got.  So, I may just head over to the 15 and take it down to the 76.  That is how we've gone to Vail Lake in the past and it doesn't seem too bad.  Anyone else have any input on this?  Am I thinking correct here?

Hey Brian...
Someone else was asking me this and here is what I figured out...
If you take the 5 to the 210 to the 15 and exit CA-76 going to Oceanside, it's about 23 miles more at the most, but the timing is the same...and probably BETTER considering LA traffic.  I just can't be sure because I've never done the other route.  I CAN tell you that going the 15, barring unforeseen accidents, should run fairly smooth.  This is close to the route that we take up north when crossing the Grapevine and it's always been a good deal.

Once you exit the 15 onto the 76, go RIGHT to Oceanside.  It's inland about 9 miles.  Once you see a Home Depot on the left, start paying close attention.  Turn LEFT at Guajome Lake Road and the entrance is right there.

Hope that helps. - K

Thanks.  That's what we'll do, but we will go across the 138 to the 15.  That's how we go to Vail.

I make the trip from Beverly Hills to Anaheim on a regular basis at all times of the day. In Fact I will be making it on the way to the camp-out myself. This is the way that I go and it really isn't as bad as you may think, most of the time.

You may want to consider going the 5 S to the 110 S then stay on the 110 to to the 105 E. Take the 105 to the 605 S to the 91 E. Take 91 E until you hit the 5 S again. That will take you around the worst of the traffic snarls. It really gets bad on the 5 S, from the 110 all the way down to the 91 because it is only 3 lanes in spots. From the 91 south, it opens up again because it goes back to 5 lanes.

My Daughters both live in Anaheim near the 91 & 5. In the middle of the night, I can make that trip in 50 minutes. On a really bad traffic day, it will take 1 1/4 hours. So you may be talking spending 25 extra minutes in traffic.

No matter which way that you choose, you are subject to accidents and bad snarls going south. The 210 E can be as bad as the 5 south any day.

If you can swing it, getting through LA between 1:PM and 3:PM is really a breeze.

If you really want to miss the traffic, you might want to think about the Pearblossom Hwy (138) to the 15 to the 215 then back to the 15 again. It would be a little longer. I haven't traveled the Pearblossom Hwy (138) in a long time. I'm sure that you have though.

***EDIT:

OOPS! I guess that you were posting at the same time that I was typing :p . That sounds like a good plan...

Quote from: griffsmom:% I'm hoping and praying that those rumors are false! Could you still come down after the meeting or is it too far for just for a Saturday and then going home on Sunday?
No one has asked me to be there yet, so am keeping my options open. If I have to go to the sales meeting, I won't get back until after 9 PM and we'll stay home. Too much work for one night.

BTW, assuming we will be there on Friday, how many will be there for Saturday's brunch?

My understanding is that quite a few people plan on a trip to Oceanside that day (I may be wrong). I know that we are going to take our kayak to Oceanside on Saturday mid:AM and probably will come back around 3:PM or so.

griffsmom

IIRC, we are doing a Saturday breakfast potluck and a Saturday evening dessert get-together, is that right?  I have no idea at this juncture what we'll be making....

Moose--Lay low and don't draw any attention to yourself.  You (okay, I) don't want anyone noticing you all of a sudden and telling you that you need to be at the sales meeting. :)

Or do what a bunch of us are doing -- take Friday off!  :D
