UPDATED: a/o 9-24-07--New dates! MLK day is on the 3rd Monday of January...whoops!
Hey ScCampers,
We are going to Morro Bay State Park for MLK weekend. All reservations are made through Reserve America. The campground is very shady and right next to Morro Bay, an excellent place for kayaking, shopping, and camping! Here's the link to Reserve America to make reservations for this January.

There's a really good BBQ restaurant in Morro Bay called McClintock's so I'm thinking that we do a dinner out on Sunday and have our usual potlucks Saturday a.m. and p.m. Sites are assigned upon arrival. Unfortunately there are no w/e sites left. Let me know if you will be there and I'll add you to the list. Here goes:

Hey ScCampers,
We are going to Morro Bay State Park for MLK weekend.  All reservations are made through Reserve America.  The camp ground is very shady and right next to Morro Bay, an excellent place for kayaking, shopping, and camping!  Here's the link to Reserve America to make reservations for this January.  Darksiders and Chez Way have made our reservations in the hook ups section for the weekend of January 11--14, 2008 (Monday is a holiday and Karen's b'day is on Sunday so we have reason to celebrate).  There's a really good BBQ restaurant in Morro Bay called McClintock's so I'm thinking that we do a dinner out on Sunday and have our usual potlucks Saturday a.m. and p.m.  Sites are assigned upon arrival but I believe the w/e section is all together.  So let me know if you will be there and I'll add you to the list.  Here goes:

See you there!

We would love to go, and we just got back from camping there, however MLK weekend is the following weekend.  Its Jan 21st, and thats the day I am off from work/school.  SO we can't join you for the 11th - 14th.

A word of warning as well, Morro bay has a few eucalyptus trees left, if you end up under one, it will make a mess of the top or your trailer, I just spend a day cleaning ours.

That's what I thought, too.  And I've got a trip planned for the next weekend (So. Cal. DOG at Doheny), but lots of districts are taking the 14th off.  So, I may have a really short week, as I've already called in the 18th!

Looks like we have some confusion with the MLK holiday weekend. In the past it has always been Karen's b'day weekend. I will do further research and report back.

Update:  See first post...dates have been changed.

let me make sure this is correct

1. it's actually January 20th weekend

2. It's Dry camping

3. we can't get our sites until we get there so we probably won't be together?

I wonder if you called the campground with all our names they would put us together

THey have a group site up on the hill.  Not sure if it has hookups but we would be together.

Beware of the eucalyptus trees...

We may be interested in this one too. Also, just be aware that January can be a cold wet time in Morrow Bay :D .

Its ALWAYS cold and wet in Morro bay.  If it not foggy and cool it isn't Morro Bay :)

So here's the scoop:

1. Yes it is from Friday, Jan. 18 through Monday, Jan. 21--I made a big boo boo when I first posted thinking that MLK weekend was the week before. How do you change the title of this thread?

2. Only dry camping sites are available--Karen got the last w/e site (since it's her b'day) so party at darksiders!

3. All sites are assigned upon arrival. Once I know how many people are going, I'll give the campground a call and see if we can work something out. If that doesn't work then the 1st person to arrive might be able to block out some sites when they check-in. If all else fails, Viking can give us rides back to our campsites after campfire ;).

The two group sites won't work because they are primarily for tent camping and only 2 RV's are allowed in each one.

So are you in???

dkutz

I think we will skip this one.  We were just there.  Plus Morro Bay in Jan with no heat and no elc woudl not be fun for us or the kids.  Love the CG but without hookup, elec especially I am out.

We thought about a group camp there when we were there but without being able to reserve specific sites, its too hard...

Actually, Jan & Feb can be the best or worst weather in Moro Bay. A cold front will work it's way down the coast every 2-3 weeks. Between the cold fronts will be warm, dry weather. It's a grab bag....

We are very interested in this camp-out. We love Moro Bay, no matter what the weather. Did you guys make reservations or are you still just checking to see who is interested? If you've already booked, we'll book too. :sombraro:

OK....I went to the site and there are a couple of choices and lots of availability. Do you think that it may be important that we all choose the same section?

There is, "STAN DEV 25FT  Nonspecific+ Standard"

and

There is, "STAN DEV 35FT Nonspecific+ Standard"

They are all the same price but I think that we may get split up if we make different selections....I don't know  .....just a thought :D .

Then again, the larger sites may be interspersed among the smaller sites.:eyecrazy:

Anyone have any ideas  ..Which sites did you guys choose?

Recumbentman

Hey we are interested also. I also noticed that the campground is split up into different sections. I to would like to know which area you guys have picked ?

go for the longer sites...a lot of us can't fit in a 25 ft site are trailers are longer than that
