Happy T-Day to everyone! We have DW's parents coming into town today, they are leaving early Saturday AM. Then we are taking off to Dove Springs OHV area to camp & do a little dirt riding. What are you doing?

Smoking two turkeys tomorrow at home.  My parents and aunt/uncle are coming over for an early dinner.  Then we all head to San Mateo campground for three nights.

Kristi is going to stay home for the Superbowl of shopping, then join us Friday night or Saturday.  She's learned a little trick of arriving after camp is all set up and leaving before the packing up.

This is my favorite holiday, and I a cooking dinner...just got the bird in brine..(otherwise known as a drunk bird) cooking down the guts for broth, the house smells great!  Gotta love a holiday where you eat all day long!

One of these days, I should fry a turkey for our camping club. If you have not had one - they're the best. It only takes 45 minutes and of course no kids allowed when I'm frying. Now with Dee's new flame thrower, which I bet she's using this Thanksgiving, it should only take her 3 - 5 minutes to cook the turkey. I just hope that Dan is not holding the bird. :)

Smoking a bird comes in second, and it takes 12 14 hours - but it is a labor of love.

It's gonna be a family camping extravaganza for us.

We have 4 campsites for 4 nights at Lake Skinner. Brother, 2 daughters & family and us. All the rest of the families will be showing up for dinner tomorrow (about 15 in all).

We are smoking turkeys. We will put ours in the brine tonight (the brine is prepared and chilled). The bird is on ice in a separate ice chest. The truck and camper are loaded.

We will be heading off as soon as Carolyn gets off work at 3:PM.  :sombraro:

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!!!!

No offense to anyone, but what is the big draw to San Mateo?  My wife and I weren't too impressed with it when we went.  Why not go to San Clemente SP instead?  I am sure there is a reason but I don't know what it is....

The draw over San Clemente?  We could get Thanksgiving weekend reservations for three sites with a month's notice!  San Clemente, Doheny, South Carlsbad, San Elijo, and Leo Carrillo were all booked.

Dave-  We'll have to do a comparo.  Last year everybody agreed my 4 hour smoked bird was the best they had ever had.

Just wondering....

Camping Coxes

I've got 16 people coming.   My sister and her family, my niece and greatniece, my mom, my family, and the my best friend who moved to Utah 18 months ago is here.  They have a soccer tourney in San Diego this weekend, so they came out for Thanksgiving and are using our house as base camp for the weekend rather than staying in a hotel.   We went to their house in Utah to visit last Thanksgiving, so now we're hosting them.

I've been cleaning like a mad woman.  Between Thanksgiving and my asthma/allergies, I had to do a lot of things I wouldn't normally worry about, like ceiling fans and heater vents and pulling furniture out to get behind it with the vacuum.  Yesterday I was so sore I could hardly walk!  Today is better.

Have a happy turkey day, everyone!

cooking...eating..cooking ..eating & cooking..I've been cooking since Sunday

I made a turkey for Kara's class party, then I found out the office lady at school has been feeding her sons "homeless" firends so I came home and made a HUGE stock pot full of turkey soup to feed them

Right now we are making pies. I'm teaching the kids how to make everything. The stuffing recipe was my great grandmothers

Griffin and I just finished making the pumpkin pies. It took all my will to hold back my perfectionist tendencies as he helped me, except for the crust. I just couldn't let go of control on that one. maybe next year...;)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

(Maybe we can say it in person to each other next year....just throwing that out there....) :sombraro:

We went up to my mom's in Manhattan Beach and stuffed ourselves with lots of yummy food!  We all got back safely, and cuddled up to watch Santa Clause 3.  The rest of the weekend will be spent with me shopping (do I dare hit the 4 A.M. sales?) and Bran will be doing the Christmas lights.  I love Thanksgiving Weekend!!

We took Darkside to Sedona for the week to spend time w/ Wes's parents who live here. Wes's brother and family from Cerritos also are here for the week and staying at the folk's house.  We are camping at Rancho Sedona cg.  It's one of the nicest cg.s we have ever stayed at...very beautiful.  It's been cold at nite, but crisp and sunny during the day.
lots of good food has been consumed and we've played a ton of board games, including Apples to Apples!
we hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving!
