I hope you can get sabrina, did you also read about ncsunshine's doggie who has to go ? Is that a possible alternative if Sabrina doesn't work ?  I guess you and miss-teri should exchange phone numbers, I am getting excited now ! We were just like you before getting Milo.

Miss-Teri

Okay, sorry about the delay.  The person I had to call was on vacation yesterday so I had to wait until today.

Here's what I found out:

Sabrina is a "really REALLY nice dog".  She is a Lab mix, and as such you have to be ready for the "puppy stage" for another 2 years as far as she will be a bit hyper (she's not as bad as many Labs) and she digs a bit.  She has really nice house manners, and she loves kids and she loves to ride in the car.  As a matter of fact, the profile on her where you check "likes kids, likes to ride in the car" has the typed word "likes" marked out and LOVES inserted for both.

She was returned from her foster home because she jumps 4 foot chain link fences.

She is about a year old now, and probably 40 - 45 pounds.  Her adoption fee is $65, which includes her spay, health certificate for crossing state borders, shots, heartworm test, fecal, and a tag that helps us to get ahold of you if she gets loose.

My biggest worry is the fence, since I'm not sure what size fence you have.  A chain link can be easily made to hold her inside with a hot wire.  I think if she gets to spend enough time with you, she'll probably not get bored and even want to escape, but with her being so far away, that's definately a concern.

Whatcha think?

Miss-Teri:

WE WILL TAKE HER!!!

PLEASE don't let her get taken by anyone else... I don't think our hearts could handle it at this point. Please contact us via email for our phone numbers and info, how to send you the adoption fee, but most of all, how we are going to get this little life 1,503.6 miles from where you are to where we are. (I checked on mapquest) Like I said earlier, I am willing to drive quite a few miles, but I simply don't have the days off to drive the entire trip. Whatever I drive will have to be done within a Friday to a Sunday. I would like to take up the PUT'ers that volunteered to drive on their offers and thank you all in advance.

Also, we have no fence whatsoever at this point in time so there is nothing for her to jump over. LOL! To be 100% honest, if there is a danger she might run away, we'll keep her on a leash when she's outside. We 99.9999% of the time would not leave the dog outside alone to begin with, as we live in a rural area "up in the mountains".  If we do need to install a fence in order to adopt her that would be no biggie.

Well at this point, I hope I can fall asleep tonight. I am SO trying to not get excited after getting burned last time, but I just can't help it. I will try to email you as well. Thanks for all your help, and look forward to talking to you VERY soon. :D

Miss-Teri:

I tried to send you an email through PUT, but is says "you are not accepting emails through the board at this time"... I am uneasy about posting my phone number and other info on here, so please send me an email with your number and I'll call... You can send me an email by clicking the little "email" button under this post. I look forward to talking to you VERY soon!! :D

Well I can't sleep...  so I thought I'd give you some links to check out where Sabrina would go camping with us.  The Boston Terrier "Boomer" in the pictures is my sister's dog that I "borrowed" last time we went camping.  I am getting my hopes up at this point!!

I hope this works out ! With Nancy willing to help you you willing to drive quite a few miles, hopefully the distance will not be a problem.

We are progressing with Milo at an incredible rate, hopefully you will not have any issues with Sabrina.

I thought Milo went back.

Nope, we were told to give him another chance .....And looks like it is going to work out. He is still sometimes shows his teeth  when being trained but, he learned to sit and stay and heels almost perfectly. So he is staying and unless he completely snaps he won't be going back.

Just let me know if you can get the travel arrangements to come close to us.

I don't know anything about these anit-jump harnesses.  Have you had any experience withthem Miss Teri?

Maybe it's worth a try to break Sabrina of the jumping habit.

Good luck Rick, hope it works out. Kelsey will be thrilled to have a new buddy along  :D  She keeps asking for a dog. Now we can tell her we'll just camp with you more often.

We had one for our large dog as he would just look at the fence and he was over it.  You have to be sure you have it on correctly and to the right tension or it doesn't work real good.  It was just a big hassle for us to keep putting it on and taking it off when he came in.  If he were an outside dog, it would have been different.

Good friend of mine had a dog who loved to jump his fence too. Adorable dog, but after a couple of trips to the pound to pick up his little escapee he tried our method of keeping our poochie contained in the yard. We have a 25 foot tie out cable (he bought 40 because his yard is longer)...the plastic coated steel wire ones. Get two of the hammer in tie out stakes that you can hammer into the ground low enough to mow over and connect the cable between the two on the ground. Then attach another cable as long as you can get away with for your yard size (buy the ones for BIG dogs) to the cable on the ground so that it will move freely along the length of the cable and another to the pooch. .. Make sure it isn't close enough to a fence that he'd jump to allow him over it.... This gives the dog the freedom of running the yard without the fear of him getting out!

Hope that makes sense! :>

Miss-Teri

Lol, I'm glad you're so excited!  I have put a hold on her so she's yours!

My biggest problem with transport atm is my family heads out on vacation early Saturday morning.  (Unfortunately we're going west, rather than east).  I can spend maybe a day trying to help work out transport, but I have so much to do to get ready to go that I'm not sure how much time I can volunteer.

Another option is flying.  That would put you out another $250 (approx) though.  I wouldn't mind tossing in a bit (maybe $10 - $20) to help out, but that still leaves a lot.  The flight would be safe and air conditioned if it was on Continental.

If you are in a rural (not a lot of car traffic) area and can watch her while she's out, a fence isn't a requirement.  Lab mixes are actually really good in that type of home as long as we don't have to worry about their getting hit by a car.

You guys seem like true animal lovers, and I'm thrilled that she gets to go live with you!  I know our dogs love camping so that makes it even better.  I would suggest crating her while you're gone until you are positive you can trust her, though!

If it doesn't work out, we HAVE to have her back (unless you find a truly good home out there) as we can not let her go to a shelter.  We are like that with all of our animals, but Sabrina is one of those special favorites of ours!

I'll e-mail you in just a bit (just got home from P&P) so we can work out some details, but I wanted to let you know I saw this!

Oops, just saw this.  It won't really matter to copcarguy since he doesn't have a fence, but my experience with the anti-jump harness is that most dogs that have any level of energy will also chew off the harness.  It's not like a collar where they can't get to it as it hangs over the back legs.  It does work great for if your dog tends to jump up on visitors, etc, while you are there to supervise so it doesn't get chewed up.
