Quote from: AustinBostonI have seen enough in my lifetime to know that, from what've read so far, if I were on the jury I would find the cop guilty of murder.  Ramming a cruiser from a "cornered" position does not present a serious risk to a police officer in that cruiser.  If he rammed (or attempted to ram) the cruiser at 100 MPH (or even 30 MPH) that would have been different, but I for one am sick of cops killing people simply because they can.

Remember, there is absolutly no evidence that this guy was an arsonist.  He "acted suspiciously."  For crying out loud, bird watching looks suspicious until you know what is going on.

ya know..this is one of those opinions you should have kept to yourself. My husband is an ex-policeman, I have many friends that are policeman and I also know there is ALWAYS two sides to a story..and if you believe everything you hear on the news well then...I'll keep that comment to myself

so please keep the cop bashing to yourself

as a matter of fact THIS thread is for making sure our fellow SCCampers are ok and safe ..not opinions and politics

Wow, what a fool says before all the facts are in! You were too quick to judge a news report from the media. As mentioned before if you were not an eye witness how can you pass judgement! I must commend all who give their lives in defense of us! There will come a time in your life when you will need help from the police and they will give you support and hopefully solve the issue. You can then remember back to this time and place and be remorsed because they came to your defense and you had nothing but unjustified comments (bad ones at that)! Every one has an opinion but yours were uncalled for. Thank you for your prayers to us but you should thank and pray for the protection that the fire dept, law enforcement and the miltary give us every day!

We had police officers risking their lives, they went into homes burning to save pictures on the walls and stacked them up on the front lawn or in the trunks of their crusiers...I want to thank the police, firefighters and military for all their help during this crisis..

Quote from: SURFcampersPRECISELY!
You do NOT know what happened here, so save your judgement!

I know a cop killed someone who was running away.

QuoteNOBODY knows what happened, except the cops involved & maybe anyone who saw it.

I promise you, I have seen enough from California cops to know that is how it will stay.

QuoteFrankly, it's none of our business to play judge & jury unless we're invited.

I thought this was the United States.  The government (which includes the police) does more and more to overturn the rights in our constitution...including the freedom of speech.  Even in the lawless old west, shooting someone who was running away was always murder.

QuoteYes, there have been a few cops who have made mistakes.

Over a 30-year period, the town I grew up in has sent 6 cops to jail, convicted 8 others of felonies, and had 4 police chiefs convicted of felonies.  Two cops were murdered (although the evidence is that it was done by other cops, no one has ever been charged).  That's 18-20 cops committing felonies that got caught, on a force of about 50.  Just a few?  I think not.  In most places, it is impossible to be an honest cop and actually feed your family.  Impossible.  And I have had family members who were cops.  They got out because they could not survive on the pay.

QuoteWhen the bridge collapsed in your state did one of us start ragging about how crappy the engineers are? Or how the rescue effort could have been better? I think not.

You would be wrong.  There were people from SoCal who had all kinds of theories about coverups and gross negligence even before the dust settled.  Even argued that the video evidence was not what it was.

QuoteThe truth will come out and we will all know.

There's about a 20% chance of the truth coming out.

Quote...and if you believe everything you hear on the news well then...

I certanly do not.  But I know the living (cops or otherwise) will spin things in a way that the deceased can not.

How many of you read this?

"Shot dead because they suspected he was an arsonist? The cops thought he was cornered, he reversed, they rammed into him. I

Dee,
Well said.

To bad Austin chose to ignore it and continued to hijack this thread with his opinions,

Question...does Austin know how many Cops we have in california ??  Hundreds of thousands...in fact, the population of Los Angeles is probably more than the whole state that Austin lives in....I'll leave it at that....

Thank goodness this is America and we can all have a voice in what goes on here.......With that being said that goodness I too can say We support our "Cops" Austin Boston  don't know where you live but something tells me you better not need their help......But you know all the fine policemen and women I know would even come to your aid and you should be very thankful for that and it should make even you sleep better at night......AMEN Austin Boston maybe you should get on your knees and ask for forgiveness......Something to think about.....

We just got home from Fallbrook. Our beloved city is still there and still the most beautiful spot on Earth (to us). What an incredible miricle...you have no idea...

I am putting a bunch of pictures in my Webshots album. There was a lot of fire and a lot of destruction. Many homes lost but it could have been SOOOOOOO much worse. You will see pictures of total mountain sides wiped out but homes still standing on them. You can see where the fire burnt right up to the houses and the fireman stopped the fire in it's track. Truly amazing.

My brother is on the east side of Fallbrook, where the fire was at it's worst. His home was spared with a water drop from a helicopter. The tops of the trees in his orchard (on the east side of the house) are singed and the orchard on the west side is even worse. I guess the fireman called in a water drop to stop the fire before it consumed the homes.

Our house is on the west side of Fallbrook and wasn't close to the fire.

We spent the last 4 days helping people in Fallbrook. It was difficult because movement was curtailed around town.

Our tenants evacuated to a friends in Vista. The next day, they received evacuation orders. They spent 2 days helping people get their horses out.

So many people did SOOOOO much.

I'm a little emotional still and have to stop writing. More tomorrow.

Here are some pics:
http://family.webshots.com/album/561212756tuufdP

Pic #48-#59 are from my brother's house. #48 shows the burned leaves on the orchard next door. #49 is a tree that got smashed from the water drop. His house was the western most edge of the fire, in that area. Everything east of his house was spared except for a few exceptions.

Wayne we are so very thankful your house and brothers place were spared the fires.....Looking at your pictures it seems unreal.....Some of the places look perfect and others have years of rebuilding both of homes and spirit.  We are just a tiny speck in time and with out our families and friends we are nothing.
We can only keep all the families in our prayers and hope they can find the strength to carry on.  This is the time to think of others and extend the helping hand where ever and however we can.....

One thing that I forgot to mention.....In pic #27 shows the property that we were originally going to buy, last year. We planned on building our house there. Fortunately, we decided to buy a house on the other side of town.

God works in mysterious ways.

I've been following this thread since the day it began. I was in San Bernardino when the Arrowhead fire began and watched it grow by the hour. My class at the sheriff's training facitlity was cancelled on monday afternoon because of new fires in the area. Friends of mine live in Runningsprings and were evacuated. All my friends here a SCCampers that had evacuations and those that were so close, I have had these fires on my mind all week., I been thinking and worried about you guys.

I got a page on monday that I was on-call for the Castaic fire and I may be needed to deploy the emergency command center and support our mutual aid response team, luckly I wasn't needed. My department sent one team on monday night and they came back on tuesday. To add to this weeks issues of the fires, I attended the funeral for the Rialto PD SWAT officer killed in the line of duty, a very sobering day.

LAPD has about 10,000 cops, LA Sheriff's has 9,000 deputies, CHP has over 2,000 cops, heck my PD has 130. Simple high school math shows that the problem officers are still the minority. As the old saying goes, as long as we recruit from the human population we'll have human problems.

I have been in law enforcement for about 20 years. I have always taken pride in the job I do, I can go home each night knowing I did my best, did an honest job. America is a ever changing place, us cops really do try to adjust. I am troubled by AustinBoston's comments, not just about the incident in San Bernardino, but by his statements about so many bad cops in his state. I don't know all the facts about the San Bernardino shooting, however I do believe that some people in our society have a great contempt for law enforcement and seem to be using greater means to escape lawful detention. I do believe this shooting would not have happened if the suspect had not done what he did. I do think that people have to be responsible for their own actions. I also belive that the officers invovled in this shooting never wanted this to happen.

To those of you who have expressed your THANKS to the police and firefighters, believe me it is apprieciated, those are the posts I share with my co-workers so they know what good people there are out there.

OH, AustinBoston for a little refresher of what law enforcement faces each day, please spend some time her... http://www.odmp.org/
