Okay, I just got off the phone with Erika @ East Shore (Puddingstone).  There are ~30 sites (full hook-ups) in Section F, around the horseshoe area.  We could get in the next 2 weekends, but we'd be spread out.  The weekend of the 26-27 (?) we could be together in F again, more toward the volleyball area.  Looking at the website does no good.  Calling was easy, but she suggested that if we're serious we'd better commit ASAP.

I'm on vacation for 2 whole weeks.  Ahh, one of the perks of teaching!

aaaahhhh Laura!!! you're killing me..the temptation...the need...the want...the withdrawls I'm having from camping....I can't take it... :banghead:

we are off until the 8th but my sister took the next 2 weeks off to help me with the MANY projects around here.
also my HS buddy from N. Cal will be down for a week and I'm not sure which week.

as far as campground choices; if it takes Moose 3 hours, It will take us at least 4 hrs and DK&3kids 5-6 hours. I think that is too long for a regular non-holiday weekend. I'm also worried if it's too far, we won't be able to go or I will have to leave my son behind depending on his HS obligations.

maybe Rivernook would be a good place for June to "meet in the Middle"?

26-27th is a Tuesday & Wed. That's OK, I guess but we'd prefer Wed-Fri. A day to recover from Christmas would be nice. We have a lot of driving over Christmas weekend :yikes: .

I just called. They have plenty of sites open the 26th-28th. Then they are booked up due to the Rose Parade.

RAIN :yikes:

That's a 4 letter word :eyecrazy:

"It never rains in Southern California".........we're going camping.........come rain, sleet or snow................HMMMMMMMMM   I'll have think about the snow thing.

I don't care where we go............I'm hookin' up the PU on Dec 27th and heading out the driveway. One direction is as good as another.......If no one's interested, we'll head North along the coast until we find a CG that will have us. If it's windy, we'll stop at Leo Carrillo. If not, we'll be at Pt Mugu :-()

darksiders

here's my 02 cents... what about Ventura Beach RV Resort...they have 144, full hookups...it's not too far north...
http://www.venturabeachrv.getwebnet.com

for us, it would be quite a drive to go to Kern or Bakersfield for the weekend...we hope the group settles on something closer to town.

What about Glenn Ivy?  Lots for the "big kids" to do ... :D

Ventura's nice, too.  On the water, in October ... a winning combination in my book!

Ok, my .02 cents now. Back on 12-16 or so, Bob(Freedom5) graciously decided to take on the Wagonmastering duties for this trip. A tall order for this particular Rally as some of you already know. Bob and his family have yet to be a part of the Halloween Rally because of other obligations, and the fact that Vail is so far away. Vail is far away from us as well, yet we have managed to make it the last 2 years because of the good time we have with everyone. Most of us agree that this last trip was a test to the nerves. Im totally for changing the Venue for the 2007 trip, and have no problem going to Bakersfied. Yes, it will be a longer trip for you folks down South, but it is a way shorter trip than Pismo and people seem to make it there. As far as Im concerned, this Rally is just as big and in my opinion more fun. Plus, we may get to give some Northern dwelling SCCampers a chance to come to this Rally that hasnt made it down to Temecula. To me it makes no difference, I will travel close to the same miles either way, I just want to be there.  My only questions are, would Bob still wagonmaster a Rally down South?  And if not, who of the people wanting the Rally to be down South would be willing to pick up the wagonmastering duties?

Ok, Im tired now............

I have no problem driving to Bakersfield for the above mentioned reasons. it was when Kern area was suggested. I'm not even sure at this point when we could drive up and if Dan & Kevin would be driving seperate .

My .02 cents
since there are many suggestions maybe a poll should be made with all the suggestions and their links to their websites.   let people vote for 1st & 2nd choice and a will not attend if it's here, and still will go anyway
this way every place that is suggested has some sort of vote. this may help to find the "happy medium" for the group.
as far as any final decisions and reservations are concerned It should be done right after the New Year when everyones holiday hoooha is over but it's still soon enough things shouldn't be full.

Then the big question is will Bob still wagonmaster or will it depend on which campground is picked

griffsdad

We're happy wth where the group decides to have this rally. Since 2003, we've been having this rally at Vail Lake, and for some, like Viking, the Douglas family, and others, it was a long trip to attend this rally. We can certainly drive to the Bakersfield area if Bob wants to wagonmaster this rally. We certainly want to keep this rally going - and hopefully maybe this year we can do T shirts. Thanks Bob for volunteering.

Keep in mind though that some people in our group, due to job considerations, can't leave until late Friday, and they have to fight bumper to bumper traffic to get to the campground. Just a thought.

Bottom line - it's for the kids and they always have a great time!!! Big kids too!!!!! Happy New Year everyone and for the Chez Ways -
GO USC!!!!!!!!! BEAT MICHIGAN!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the kind words, Dave.  Look for us at the game--we're sitting about 50 rows behind the Michigan band!

Now that the Xmas rush is over and the New year is approaching; we need to square things up. Both Brian and Dee are making a statement here and I want to tell them that I will STILL wagonmaster the Halloween rally for 2007!
Now having said that I ask that ALL of us give their top 3 choices they would like. I would ask of Lori if she could then put a poll together and we all vote.
I can appreciate not wanting to drive the distance to Bakersfield. It was an suggestion that was desirable for me only in the fact that I am so close to this campground, that any problems that came up, I could drive there and back in less than an hour! Any other place down south and I don't have that same luxury!
I have another suggestion to start off with. What about the Newport Dunes RV resort? The same place that Lisa has chosen for the Easter Rally. I looked at their site tonight. I am thinking the weekend right before Halloween. That would be the 28 (sat) & 29 (sun). You come come in on the 27th (fri) to get set up. If you go to their site http://www.newportdunes.com/Pages/RV-Park-Pages/RV-Park-Year-Round-Events.html. They do list on their activites link, that they do do RV decorating for Halloween. They also have crafts for the kids. So finally let's get the New Year going right and make up our minds real quick about where we want to be.

Thanks Bob!!!
Newport is awesome for me 20 minutes and I'm there...all the suggestions I liked.. I did even like the one in Kern just not on a Non-Holiday 3 day weekend.
a poll would be good. I would present it but not sure how to do it. if one hasn't been made after New Years I will try to figure it out. I'm just very busy this next week.

oldmoose

I must admit I do not find Newport Dunes exciting.
