Quote from: TheVikingThanks Sue, but I believe we have electric at our site.  If not we have a Genny.

How stupid, I remember you now have an attitude and a Genny,  Does Viqueen know about Genny?   :tent:

Does anyone know if the 18 is open all the way the campground, coming from the south? :sombraro:

Yes 18 is opened all the way to and including Running Springs. It is closed at Running Springs going East to Big Bear.

Dogwood is West of Running Springs and there should be little to no traffic :-() .

The weather has changed:

Looks like possibility of thunderstorms on Friday......that could be a good thing or it could be a bad thing. Thunderstorms in those mountains often lead to fires.

It will be in the low 40s at night. Don't forget an extra blanket :D .

This in from ch 4 news....

You know we're camping so it's gonna rain.  Lancaster's high for Friday is 71. Last week we were 100. They are saying possibly the biggest storm for September in 20 or so years?  We really need the rain. We'll make sure we bring the tables in case we need to set up in our trailer.

FIRST EVER SCCAMPERS SNOWBALL FIGHT!!!

wavery

In December of 1995 I sailed down to Antarctica, from Dunedin, New Zealand, by myself (my wife was smart enough not to go). That summer was the worst weather in over 100 years (in the Antarctic). I spent 4 weeks in a survival suit and nearly froze to death (literally). The wind blew 70-100MPH for 22 days. My boat was so covered with snow that I stood the risk of sinking. I had to shovel snow off the decks twice a day. One day, I couldn't get back into the boat's cockpit because the wind was so strong that I couldn't move (for fear of being blown off the boat). I was starting to suffer hypothermia. I struggled back to the cockpit to get out of the wind (hardest thing I've ever done) but I didn't have enough strength to open the hatch to get inside. I fell asleep and figured that I would not wake-up. I woke-up about 12-hours later and had to go right back out and clean the decks again, in the driving snow and howling wind.

I had a diesel heater on the boat and 120gal of diesel fuel. This was plenty to get me through the winter if I got stuck down there but I didn't dare run the heater one minute more than I had to, to stay alive. There was a possibility of getting stuck down there for 9-12 months if I got froze in. Food was not a problem. I had provisions to get me through.

Now, I experience panic attacks at the mere sight of snow. I have suffered with PTSS ever since. So, when I say that I am allergic to snow, I mean it. If I really thought that there was one little chance of (accumulative) snow, I would cancel.

There is a very week low pressure system working down the coast. It may get temps down into the 30s (in the middle of the night) if it intensifies.

Will keep my fingers crossed for no snow.  I'm getting out all our warm clothes and jackets.

I love it...when the SCCampers camp it's always an adventure...

heavy rains, cold , wind, 110+ temps, snow, bears, people falling over in chairs, kids to the ER....

Just think of how boring our lives would be without camping :sombraro:

HMMMMMMMM!!!! I can't see this but this is what the National Weather Service is saying:

http://www.weather.com/weather/newscenter/alerts/92382?alertId=617138
A STRONG STORM FOR SEPTEMBER MAY MOVE THROUGH SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA LATE THURSDAY THROUGH EARLY SATURDAY. THIS STORM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE WEATHER VERY RARELY SEEN IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA IN SEPTEMBER. THIS COULD BE THE STRONGEST MID LATITUDE SEPTEMBER STORM FOR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA IN AROUND 20 YEARS. SEPTEMBER STORMS WITH SOME SIMILARITY TO THIS STORM OCCURRED IN 1986 AND IN 1963.

THIS STORM IS CURRENTLY DEVELOPING OVER SOUTHWESTERN BRITISH COLUMBIA AND WILL MOVE QUICKLY SOUTHWARD ALONG THE WEST COAST TO NEAR THE BAY AREA BY WEDNESDAY EVENING...THEN WILL MOVE MORE SLOWLY SOUTHWARD ALONG THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA COAST TO NEAR POINT CONCEPTION BY EARLY THURSDAY EVENING. MOVEMENT THEN WILL BE SLOWLY EASTWARD ACROSS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH EARLY SATURDAY. THERE ARE STILL SOME DIFFERENCES IN THE TRACK FORECAST AND TIMING FOR THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY AND ESPECIALLY FOR THE POTENTIAL IMPACTS TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.

STRONG WINDS WILL DEVELOP IN ADVANCE OF THIS STORM IN THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY. THIS STORM SHOULD BRING MUCH COOLER TEMPERATURES FOR THURSDAY AND FRIDAY WITH COOLEST TEMPERATURES FRIDAY. DEPENDING UPON THE EVENTUAL TRACK AND TIMING OF THIS STORM... THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR LOCALLY HEAVY PRECIPITATION AT TIMES FROM LATE THURSDAY THROUGH LATE FRIDAY. THIS STORM WILL BE QUITE COLD FOR SEPTEMBER WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF THUNDERSTORMS AND EVEN FOR SNOWFALL IN THE MOUNTAINS ABOVE 6000 FEET. THERE IS ALSO THE POSSIBILITY OF WATERSPOUTS OVER THE COASTAL WATERS AND TORNADOES OVER ADJACENT LAND AREAS.
