ok, i'm sorta confused.  I had planned on taking 330 to hwy 18, in Running Springs, then going NW on 18.  but i'm wondering where exactly is the road closure?

it looks like Dee is taking hwy 18 from the other direction. Exiting hwy 30

i have not been that way in a long time.  which is the easiest way for a moho pulling a tow vehicle?  i don't want to miss it, since we can't put the rig in reverse to back up

we plan on getting up there in the early afternoon.

Karen -
I got the same directions as you from Google Maps.  BUT...my brother, who lives in Redlands and sometimes has business up the mountain assured me that Hwy 18 (Take Waterman exit off of the 30 and head toward mountain) is the way to go.  He is SURE that it is faster.

Now - having said that, I haven't ever pulled anything up there and Dan's going ahead of me, so I won't be this time either.  Keep your Sccamper phone list handy and call ahead to a cell.  That's what I'm going to do so that Dan can tell me exactly where to look so I don't drive right by it.

Good luck girlfriend!  :-) Kristi

The news is saying that there will be snow at the 6000 ft. level. Has anyone purchased chains for their TV and camper? Does anyone know how to put them on?

Dee please PM me the cell phone list. Thanks

They're already on their way.  They don't have computer access, so they're missing all the fun here!  If you have to get in touch with them, try Kevin's cell number listed on the SCCampers list.

BTW, the 210 is finished all the way through to the 215.  I talked with the CHP to confirm it.  Kevin & Todd will be taking that to 18, so don't confuse them!

If it's not snowing :D I'm going to drive up on Saturday to say hello & check out the drive.  I'd really like to get up there sometime, especially now that I've got a more powerful TV to pull up the hill.  So, if you need anything, let me know.

Thanks, Kristi, we will take the 18 exiting from hwy 30.  I hope we can get cel service at the cg... you know how the mtn.s can be.

also, Dogwood's elevation is 5600', so no snow for us, since I heard the snow will be above the 6000' mark. it's gonna be chilly at nite.  Dee, this trip we will definetely be hangin' by the fire!  :) (we will contribute to the flames)

NO.
WUSSING.
OUT.

Yes I have chains for the TV and trailer, but there is NO way that chains are going to be required unless things change quite a bit.  It takes quite a while for the road to cool down to the point that snow will stick.

My fondest memories of camping trips from childhood were the rainy or snowy ones.  C'mon- we have trailers, most are waterproof and have furnaces!

No I don't have chains, since I'm driving up in the afternoon I think I will be fine, yes I know how to put them on but It's been along time. If it's actually snowing when I'm driving , you will see me camping out at one of the turn outs :eyecrazy:

my plan is 91 fwy tuns into the 215 to the 10 east exit waterman and head north. Waterman becomes  the 18..

here's my prediction:

The storm won't be as bad as predicted, most of it will be outta here by Friday. Saturday is going to be a gorgeous Day and when we get back we can all tease wavery for wimping out ;)

Dee I hope you are right!   Its drizzling here today, gray clouds ugly making me depressed.  I need this campout...  We may stay one more day if the weather is nice....we will wait until Sunday and see if our spot is open.

You have the right idea, But I would suggest that you stay on the 215 through San Berdo and get on the 210 east, then exit onto waterman.
I grew up in this area.

have fun and stay warm  :frosty:

That way is an easier climb and no hair-pin turns. It's a farther distance though.

I would go the 18 (Waterman Ave) from the 210. It's really not bad and you don't have to push it. It's 2 lanes most of the way up and there are passing lanes beyond that.

Jason woke up with a bad sore throat this morning.  Crap.

please don't bring him if he's contagious...Kevin's immune system is low and he has already missed 5 of 12 days of school...........he's only allowed 9 for the semester or he looses 1 unit of credit

just an FYI-they have to be fever free for 24 hrs or they are still contagious
